Pet Tattoos
I recently became seriously interested in getting my first tattoo. I wanted something that would reflect my love of animals, so I did internet research along those lines. My results took me on an interesting tangent.
Did you know that there are identification tattoos available for your pet? What you do is register with the National Dog Registry. They issue your little critter with an identification number that will be tattooed in an easily seen spot on the animal.
What are the benefits of such a registry method? For one thing, your pet’s tattoo cannot fall off of it’s collar like an ordinary identification tag. And even with a tag, addresses change and phone numbers are disconnected. With a tattooed identification number, all a person has to do is call in to the National Dog Registry with the number, and they will have your dog on file with all of your updated contact information as well as a guarantee that the found animal is indeed yours.
The tattooing procedure takes only minutes and will last forever. It does cost you money to have the tattoo done as well as have the number registered. I’m not sure this method of identification would be right for me and my pets, but it might be for you!
What do you think about tattoo identification for pets?
Oh, and about that tattoo I wanted? I got it done last Friday. It’s my little Pepsi’s paw print!

LOVE the tattoo!!
My mother has a long-haired dachsaund which was tattooed when he was just a pup. He actually got out of the house at one point and was returned two weeks later BECAUSE of the identification. The only downside is that you have to hope that whomever finds the dog knows to look for one. But better safe than sorry, right?
