Monthly Flea Treatment

by

cat

It’s a new month today and so it’s once again time to give the cats a flea treatment. I started giving the cats their monthly flea treatment at the beginning of the month so that when the next month rolled around, I would know that it was time for another treatment.

I started giving the cats their flea treatment at the first of the month because I kept forgetting when I had given it to them. Now a smarter pet owner might just note on a calendar the date of the last flea treatment or mark on the next month when it should be given again. Not this pet owner as that just makes too much sense. Between the cats and the kid, to find a working pen and being able to hang onto it long enough to walk to the calendar is quite challenging. So, it’s easier for me to remember by just giving their treatment the first of each month.

The treatment I use is Hartz. You just place it on the back of their neck, and it does the rest. It’s less messy than flea powder that is for sure and more reliable the collars since my cats have a tendency to lose those.

We want to make sure that our cats don’t have a flea problem since it can be terrible to get rid of fleas in your home. Luckily we haven’t had much trouble with fleas in the house since regularly treating the cats for fleas.

lynn, you probably won’t post my comment, but that’s ok… i just want to warn you about telling people about over the counter flea remedies… oh and your cat is gorgeous by the way… and i’m glad he’s suffered no ill effects from the hartz, but i’ve had two in the past who have almost died from the hartz… and several other rescuers in my area almost have a twitching fit when they hear of anyone using this stuff.

had one, i put the stuff on the back of his neck, not long after he started almost having seizures. rushed him to the vet and it caused neurological damage… thankfully i got him there quick enough to save him, but he has a head tilt to this day because of that stuff.

i’m not trying to be annoying or anything, but that stuff makes me a little nuts and i wanted to let you know. alot of people just don’t know it can do this…

advantage from the vet or online is almost as cheap, but a buck or two, and will definitely not cause any major problems.

oh, and for the house - go to http://www.fleabusters.com - wow, this stuff is simply and truly amazing! i’ll never use anything else in the house…

thanks… and like i said, don’t post this comment if you don’t want to, it’s just mainly to let you know. thank you again,

    Deb,
Thanks for comment. You know when I was writing this post, I thought I had read about issues with over the counter flea treatments. Luckily we haven’t had any. I had wanted to add sort of a disclaimer to the effect but really didn’t couldn’t remember what I had read or if I could find it again. Your comment stands as a good reminder of the possible dangers.
