Husky in Need - Please Help Avoid a Death Sentence!
Oh this breaks my heart. Do you think we could swing having five dogs???
Reality must set in though … I just can’t save them all.

My hair dresser sent me photos and the store of this sweet sweet boy. His name is Nikki and he is a 7 year old pure bred Siberian Husky. His owner is moving to Nevada and is going to put Nikki down if another home can’t be found!
It makes me sick to my stomach. It’s not Nikki’s fault that his owner is moving.
Anyway…here is the scoop.
Nikki is neutered and weighs 90 pounds. He is a gorgeous red and white Husky, one of the most beautiful combinations (in my biased opinion).
He will need a secure yard with a fence - Huskies like to roam. Nikki has a love for adventure, enthusiasm, and loyalty that will be returned ten fold. He just wants a home and a family who will spend quality time with him. He needs lots of exercise as Huskies are super active, even at the age of seven.

Nikki cannot go to a home with cats or small animals but he will get along with other dogs as long as they are not aggressive in any way. Please do research on Siberian Huskies if you’ve never owned one before.
Nikki may also need some special health care - he has had a couple of seizures in the last couple of years, but seizures should not end a dog’s life and should be able to be controlled easily with medication or other means.
And please forward Nikki’s case on. I’m sure that we can arrange transportation somehow if you are out of state (we are in Washington State).
The photo scans here don’t show his lovely color. And I’m guessing that with some good grooming his coat will be stunning.
Please help give this handsome young man a second chance. It’s not his fault that his owner isn’t doing the right thing.

I don’t get it. Why is Nikki going to be put down? The has to be a shelter, humane society, or rescue group that can take him.
Who would put this dog down? Is the owner going to do it himself? Vets have a Code of Ethics too. If a vet has agreed to pet this animal down for no medical reason, he/she should be charged with abuse. As should the owner.
Unfortunately my home wouldn’t suit this dog, but if I could I’d love to give him a home. If he’ sin the same area as you are I’d call the same people who took Timber (Rambo) from his home and get them to pick this dog up before it’s too late.

What, they don’t allow dogs in Nevada!?!?!
There are options. Shelters. Rescues. Even Craigslist for crying out loud, but to have him PUT DOWN! -shudder- Would someone so easily euthanize a human child….I think not.
Sorry, that sort of made me see red. I’ll have to be sure to pass on the story!

I don’t know Mike. The only thing I can think is that the owner will use the Seizure issue as an excuse. Or just take him to the pound where he probably will be put down because of his age and special needs.
It just makes me SO sad.
I’m going to be creating posters and put them up at my dogs’ daycare and at work. I hope that someone can give this gorgeous boy a second chance.

I hope you find a home for Nikki. It would be a crime to put him down.

Meg,
With your permission, I would like to re-publish this post (reworded, of course) on our blog. The more people know about him, the more chance he will have of being saved. Is it okay to publish the photo?

OF COURSE OF COURSE. . . any one please repost and borrow photos. I’m fine with that!!! Just make sure they are hosted on your site and not pulling directly from this one.
THANK YOU!!!!

I’ll repost this story too. BTW, have you contacted the local rep for the siberian breed rescue, etc. yet?
What city is Nikki in?
As to the prior questions - if someone wants to take a dog to a vet it depends on the vet. Any reputable vet would either try to talk them out of it or ask if they could rehome them. Other vets deal on the liability principle - if they don’t euthanize the dog, they may have a feeling the person will shoot it so they do as requested.
Sometimes when someone is going to euthanize a dog it is a cry for help. They threaten it so people would act.
Hopefully word will spread and Nikki will get a home.

I’ve also crossposted this on my blog. I hope he finds a home. If I had the money and didn’t already have two cats, I’d take him right away!
As has already been asked, have you contacted local no-kill shelters/rescue groups? He’d have unlimited time to find a new, loving home. Also, there are Husky breed rescues across the country. If the local group can’t take him, I’m sure there is a group that will.
I’m sure if we work together we can find help for this guy.
