Skittles

skittles.jpg

This week’s pet of the week is my niece’s dog Skittles. He was a pound puppy and has been a wonderful pet. She has had him for 12 years, so he’s getting on up in age. He is still as gentle and loving as he always has been.

Skittles doesn’t care for young pups. In fact, when they have had puppies, Skittles gives them the cold shoulder no matter how much attention they try to demand from him. He isn’t like that with people. He loves attention and gently demands it when he is around. He will stand close to you and give you that “hey please pet me” look until you cave.

Skittles was a great puppy and a good dog. He has arthritis but still makes the rounds to my parents’ house when he is feeling up to it. He’s one of those dogs that really make you understand how pets become a family member. He has a lot of personality, too. Skittles is a picky eater and takes his food away from prying eyes to eat it. He has his quirks that make you understand why pet are considered part of the family.

Sugar and Spice

Monday, January 14th, 2008

This week’s Pet of the Week is from my home town. The local animal rescue league does great work to try to find homes for animals. They are a no kill shelter and usually have many needs to fill.

Here are two cute puppies named Sugar and Spice. They are both one year old spayed females. They are available through the Laurel Animal Rescue League at at 2511 Moose Drive in Laurel, MS.

Pet of the Week: Baron

Monday, December 31st, 2007

Pet of the week returns! Yes, I started a weekly feature only to do one installment and not another one. Yet Pet of the Week will return in 2008. There are so many animals that are in shelters across the country that are just waiting to be adopted. Each week Homezookeeper will spotlight one animal found on Petfinder.com.

This week’s Pet of the Week is Baron. She’s a female Beagle mix from the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She is available from the Humane Society of South Mississippi, which is located in Gulfport. Baron is an adult and is ready to be in a new home in 2008.

Contact the Humane Society of South Mississippi located at 2615 25th Avenue, or search for a pet at your local shelter to adopt.

Pet of the Week - Lily

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Here is a new weekly feature for Home Zoo Keeper. Each week I will spotlight a pet that is available for adoption. For those wanting a pet, adopting a pet from a local shelter can be very rewarding.

Today’s pet isn’t for everyone but I’ve heard they do make great pets. This is Lily, a pot-bellied pig, who is six years old. She is female and while she isn’t aggressive, she doesn’t care for too much contact.

Her current owners are moving to the city and will not have any room for Lily. Lily is available for adoption from the Pear tree Avian Sanctuary in Springfield, Missouri.
