Bringing home a new pet
My co-worker has had a small dog adopt them. Each night she goes home to find the little mixed dog waiting for her arrival. After this happened several days in a row, they decided that the dog must not have a permanent home. So they have started keeping him inside their fenced yard with their dog.
At first, she was worried that the two dogs would not get along since their big dog is very territorial and really doesn’t like sharing the spotlight. But apparently things are going well between the two. They still aren’t for certain if they should keep the little dog since he does seem well trained, so he must belong to someone. Still these last few weeks they have really enjoyed his company, even their dog might agree with that.
I would like for us to have a dog in the future but am not sure what our cats would think of the new family member. Maybe I can find some advice on how to introduce a new pet into a family that already has pets. My co-worker seems to have done it well but it might be easy with the new pet being the same species. Still it’s an adjustment. I’m sure that I will have to spend more time with my cats once we do have a dog as sort of a reassurance that they are still part of the family.
