Saying Goodbye

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

I’m giving up my blogging position with Home Zoo Keeper in hopes that someone else will take it up to give it the attention it deserves. I blog for several blogs and felt like I needed to make some tough decisions about which ones I wanted to continue. Ever since our cat Calisto was run over, I just don’t have as much heart to talk about animals as I used to.

I’ve really enjoyed talking about our cats and other animals these past few months. But I feel this is the right move for me and Home Zoo Keeper. I still have two blogs with 451 Press, so you can find me at Wii Rally and Mississippi State College.

Pet Lovers Week on Wheel of Fortune

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

We usually watch Wheel of Fortune because the little one likes it. I think it’s all the clapping and cheering she responds to. Anyway, tonight we were watching when they announced it is Pet Lovers Week.

All of the contestants share a photo of their favorite pet. Also at the end of tonight’s episode, they had a highlight reel of some contestants who have mentioned their pets on past episodes.

Some of the puzzles were pet-centric. It might be fun to watch the rest of the week just to see what they do on the show. Maybe someone will have a very interesting pet. I think all the contestants tonight had a dog.

A Visitor

frog.jpg

We have a lot of tree frogs that hang out on the porch, especially at night. This little guy was hiding in the Dora umbrella and was a little startled when I opened it.

I snapped a few pictures then helped the him down. Then Rae had fun touching him and watching him hop away. She has since talked about the frog a lot. Those few minutes spent with him made an impression on her.

The other night there were four frogs around the front door. I think they were hanging out waiting for dinner to be attracted to the outside light. They sure are cute little fellas.

Dogs in Yard Sign

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Do you have dogs? We don’t but I think this dogs in yard sign is a great idea. It’s simple yet warns visitors, the postman, or delivery driver that there is a dog on the premise.

Also it may just be me but I like that it doesn’t say “beware of dog” but is a much gentler notice. “Beware of dog” just puts people on their guard, as you might expect it to be a big, mean dog. Also, these signs are much more visually appealing than those orange and black signs.

It’s always good to be cautious around animals you don’t know and even the kindest dog might snap at a total stranger. So a warning is nice but one that is worded in a neutral manner is more appealing to me.

Horse Care

My niece’s horse hurt her foot recently. They went by the vet who gave them something to put on it to ease her pain while it heals. Apparently it is quite challenging to administer medicine to a horse. They got it done but will have to repeat the process for a few days.

It makes me glad we have small animals that are a lot easier to treat when they are hurt or sick.

Cat Fun

Monday, April 7th, 2008

We now only have one cat since we haven’t seen Calisto for a week, so it’s likely it was her that got hit by a car. Anyway, Fade has bee adjusting to be the only pet. She is not the only cat as we have two neighborhood cats as well as my mom’s cat that are always around somewhere. But for the most part, Fade stays on the porch or under my truck.

She does seem to be more playful with us. She has started following us around when we walk around the yard and pouncing on make believe opponents. Well maybe some aren’t make believe but are much smaller than she is.

I had mentioned to my husband about the idea of bringing Fade back into the house. I don’t think he’s on board with that idea, but I hate to think of her bored outside and alone. I’ve been trying to spend more time with her and do more things with her. But with cats there is only so much they are interested in doing like eating and napping.

I did brush her hair and she seemed to enjoy that. She really needs a bath but I don’t think she will think of that as quality time.

Here is a cute video of a little girl and a French bulldog. I think she likes him. If you need a laugh, then here’s one.
