My Next Dog

Seriously, isn’t he the cutest thing? I would love a Siberian husky but will probably have to settle for this cutie pie for right now. I think it’ll be a lot of fun to have this little Nintendog guy around especially since he responds to touch, etc. I loved my Furby. Remember those?

Those who love stuffed animals and Nintendogs will surely love this little guy. I know I would. They have such cute toys these days. I can’t wait for my second childhood to buy some for me.

Pets and Cold Weather

Monday, November 26th, 2007

It is beginning to get a littler colder outside. This will be the first winter that our cats have been outside. Last winter they were still indoor cats. We’ve been brainstorming about ways to make it more pleasant for them to be outside.

cat

Our cats are really good natured, so they haven’t really tried to come inside during this cold snap. Still, it’s bound to be uncomfortable for them to be outside in the elements, so we want to do something to make it better for them.

Luckily, we have a shed behind our house that they can easily get into and seem to enjoy to sleep in. Since this might not be enough protection, we plan to add a cat house to the porch. A temporary solution will be a card board box with some old blankets in the bottom. On really cold nights, we will put a small light near or in the box, if we can rig it to be safe, that will generate some heat to keep the cats warm.

Before it gets too cold, we will replace the card board box with a more permanent solution, like a dog house. Then we will mount the light, so that it will be safer.

On extremely cold nights, we will probably just bring the cats into the house since I’m not sure the cats will even sleep in a box if we set it up for them. To ensure that they don’t get too cold, one or two nights in the house will not hurt anything. Besides, it might be fun to have indoor kitties again on a temporary basis.

Dog Park

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

A dog park recently opened up near where we live. While we don’t have a dog, I think a dog park is a great idea. We live in the country, so we probably wouldn’t benefit to having a park near us since our dog could roam freely. But for those who live in the city with pets, a dog park is a wonderful opportunity to get out and about with your canine companion.

Now residents have somewhere to take their pets and meet other pet owners. Dogs love companionship, so having a place just for them is a wonderful idea. If we ever have a dog again, we will definitely have to take them to the dog park.

To Catch a Mouse

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

This week I saw yet another or the same mouse in the house. So, I borrowed some peanuts and traps from my dad. Last night we forgot to set them because we wanted to set them after Rae went to asleep. Since we all went to sleep at the same time, that plan didn’t work that well. This morning my husband did set a few of them for me. Mousetraps are mind boggling to me. I just can’t figure them out.

Our cats are usually good mouse hunters and am not sure how one made it past the army of cats that hang around our place. We have our two cats, my mom’s cat plus two strays.

When I came home from work I checked the traps and sure enough there was one mouse in the trap. However, there still more work to be done as my husband noticed yet another mouse this evening running across the floor. We’ve got more traps set, so hopefully it’s only a matter of time before he takes the bait.

Holiday Pet Photos

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

Lately I’ve been thinking about our holiday photos. I really want to take our two-year-old’s picture at a nice location. After snapping these some photos with the pumpkin and the cats, I thought about taking some holiday photos with our pets as well.

I’m not sure how cooperative our cats will be but it’s worth a shot. It’s not like I’m going to try to take them to a studio to have their picture made. I would just like a nice photo to add on our Christmas card. This is the first time I plan to include the pets in a holiday photo. It is something to think about now since the holidays will be here before I am ready!

A Window Down, Open Invite for Cat

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

I had left my window down on my truck the other night. I shouldn’t have been surprised to find Fade asleep behind the wheel. I have a cushion that I sit in while driving since my seat is broken. Fade must find it a nice bed. When I went back into the house to get my camera, she decided to get out. I guess she thought it was time for breakfast, but I did snap her on my hood.

It’s like cats know exactly where they shouldn’t be and that is where they also gravitate to. I will just have to remember to roll my window up at night.

Cat and Mouse

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

catmouse.jpg

I have learned something pretty valuable that if you leave cat food outside, they will come. The neighborhood cats will flock to your front door step and quickly eat what you have left for your cats. So far, I’ve counted three extra cats around our place. I really don’t mind but just don’t want them to bother my cats.

So, today as I sit typing on my laptop, I’m a little dumbfounded when I hear and then see a mouse scramble across the living room floor. Where did he come from? How did he make it in with all the cats that guard the home, especially the side with the cat food, so closely?

I know the cats have gotten a few mice as is evident by the carcasses that I’ve had to dispose of. Maybe this one just slipped through somehow. I guess it’s time to set a few live traps.
